# A Super Bowl Prayer to the Holy Spirit
*2016-02-07*

> Bill Young reflects on the feast of St. Colette and offers a prayer to the Holy Spirit for greater trust and abandonment to God, tying the theme to Super Bowl Sunday.

## Feast of St. Colette

Today, February 7, is the feast day of St. Colette of Corbie (1381‑1447). After turning twenty‑one, she entered the Third Order of St. Francis, lived as an anchoress in a cell, and devoted herself to prayer. Through that prayer she was later called upon by the Pope to found several monasteries for the Poor Clares, leaving a lasting legacy of humility and service.

## Why a Super Bowl Prayer?

Because today is also Super Bowl Sunday, I thought it fitting to offer a “super” prayer—one that asks the Holy Spirit to deepen our trust and abandonment to Christ, just as athletes must trust their teammates and the game plan.

## Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, Spirit of knowledge, wisdom, and love, you alone know the truth. You alone can discern the essence and true meaning of all reality. You know exactly what is good and what is bad for me. Spirit of God, I abandon myself to you. I do not seek to know more than I must, nor to speak more than is needed. I desire only what you have decided for me. You love me and know what is good for me. Spirit of love, pour out on me all the gifts you wish to give. Praise be to you. Amen.

## Closing Blessing

May God bless you all, and enjoy the Super Bowl.

*Trusting the Holy Spirit helps us surrender our own will and find the true good that God intends for us.*
