# Novena to Our Lady of the Poor
*2016-01-08*

> Bill Young leads a novena prayer to Our Lady of the Poor, invoking her intercession for the sick, the poor, and the Church, and concluding with a heartfelt appeal for mercy and healing.

## Opening Prayer

Good evening, this is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer and Lunch Podcast. We begin a novena to Our Lady of the Poor, to be prayed from January 6 through January 14. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Lord, come to my aid. Make haste to help me, O Lord. As it was in the beginning, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

## The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Invocations to Our Lady of the Poor

Our Lady of the Poor, lead us to Jesus, the source of grace. Grant that we may submit to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit, that the fire of love which He brings to earth may burn in our hearts and in the world.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Holy Mother, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Queen of the World, save all nations; grant us wise governors and peace among peoples, that all may be shepherded under one Good Shepherd.

Comfort of the afflicted, grant healing to those who suffer and sustain all who serve them out of love. May we belong wholly to Christ and be delivered from danger.

Health of the sick, be present to comfort the ill, teach us to carry our daily cross in union with Jesus, and help us serve the poor faithfully.

Help of Christians, intercede with your Son for the grace necessary for our salvation and that of our families, and for all who turn to prayer in humanity.

Mother of the Church, we trust in your motherly intercession. Entrust to you the journey of the Church in this third millennium, the spiritual growth of our youth, and the vocation to priesthood, religious life, and missionary work.

Queen of the Confessors, you said, “Believe in me and I will believe in you.” Strengthen us to make good choices, to be comforted by the Gospel, and to use our freedom for the love of Christ and the glory of the Father.

Glory of the Holy Spirit, pour out your graces as you did for the young girls of Banneux, laying your hand upon us, transforming our lives, and freeing us from slavery to sin, that we may be consecrated to Christ alone.

## Closing Prayer

Mother of the Savior, Mother of God, we thank you for your obedience to the will of God and for presenting our petitions to Jesus, the sole mediator. Teach us to give thanks to the Father in all circumstances, and that the Eucharist, the food of eternal life, may bear fruit in our lives.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Holy Mother, pray for sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Our Lady of Banneux, we place all our trust in you. Hear our prayers, have mercy on our spiritual and material needs, restore to us the treasures of faith, provide daily bread, heal the sick, and unite us in love.

*May Our Lady of the Poor draw us ever closer to Christ, granting peace, healing, and the grace to serve the needy.*
