# Contemplating Christ’s Invitation to Rest
*2015-12-17*

> Bill Young leads a prayer of contemplation based on Matthew 11:28, inviting listeners to rest in Jesus’ mercy and reflect on the salvific work of the Cross.

## Opening Invitation

Good morning. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer at Lunch podcast. Today we pause for a special prayer called the Prayer of Contemplation, centered on Jesus’ invitation: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:28).

## Entering into Silent Meditation

Lord Jesus, I sit before you in deep meditation, hearing the echo of your words within my heart. May this silent moment be prolonged, allowing me to contemplate your mercy, which brings solace and strength.

## Rest from Daily Burdens

Lord, you are present with me. Free me from the worries, anxieties, and trials of everyday life. The thoughts that oppress me—those that seem to hold the meaning of life—are set down in your love.

## Christ, the Kingdom Near

Jesus, your presence brings the good news of the Kingdom of God. You are proof that the Kingdom is close at hand, that God reigns over all and loves each of us. You govern the circumstances that bind humanity, drawing us ever nearer to yourself.

## The Cross and Our Salvation

When you were crucified, the wonderful plan of salvation was accomplished. Reconciliation came between heaven and earth through your death and resurrection. Now, Bread of Life, you remain the source of our spiritual nourishment, the sacrifice that prepares us for eternal communion.

## Prayer of Communion

Lord, draw me into communion with you. Let your presence enter my thoughts and daily events, staying with me forever. May this union give me solace, strength, and joy in you. Amen.

*In Christ’s invitation we find true rest for our weary souls.*
