# Be With Us Always – Advent Reflections with Pope Francis
*2015-12-05*

> Bill Young welcomes listeners to the first week of Advent, reading Matthew 28:20 and a prayer from “Opening Our Hearts to God,” while inviting us to live in Christ’s constant presence.

## Opening the Season

Good morning, this is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer at Lunch podcast. Today is Saturday, the first week of Advent. We begin by turning to a short devotional called *Opening Our Hearts to God*, which guides us through Advent with the prayers of Pope Francis.

## Scripture Reading

Our reading comes from Matthew 28:20: “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” This promise of Christ’s perpetual presence sets the tone for the entire season.

## Advent Prayer

Let us pray together:

O God, remind us that those who believe are never alone. Teach us to see all things with the eyes of Jesus, that He may be the light for our path that never fades. May this light always increase in us—in our daily lives, in our families, and at our work. May we share the joy of faith, expressed in charity, in excellence, and in tenderness. Amen.

## Living the Light

As we move through Advent, let this prayer shape how we encounter each day. When we recognize Christ’s presence, we can bring that light into every interaction—whether at home, at work, or in the wider community—transforming ordinary moments into opportunities for love and service.

*Christ’s promise to be with us always invites us to let His light guide every aspect of our lives this Advent.*
