## Introduction to the Novena

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the 198th episode of Catholic Podcast Ministries' Prayer N Lunch. Today's lunchtime prayer is the Novena to the Virgin Mary, Health of the Sick. This novena is normally said from November 12th through November 20th. It consists of the same prayer said once a day for nine consecutive days.

## Opening Prayers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. He was born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day, He rose again. He ascended into heaven. He is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Petition for Spiritual Health

O Virgin Mary, who are invoked by the name of Health of the Sick, because You are the Mother of our Savior Jesus, grant me the grace of health of my soul, thus allowing me to remain in the grace of God and to receive the holy sacraments. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Finding Wisdom in Suffering

O Virgin Mary, who always listens with mercy to the limitations of those who suffer, obtain from the Lord the grace for me to bear my sufferings with patience, allowing me to understand that a great treasure of wisdom and goodness is hidden within them. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Petition for Physical and Mental Healing

Virgin Mary, invoked as the Health of the Sick, because You are the comforter of the afflicted and the health for those who are ill, grant me the grace of health, physical and mental, if it be in accordance with the holy will of God. Heal me from present evils and give me sufficient strength to carry out the duties of my state of life. Amen.
