# Prayer for Mexico and the Year of Mercy
*2015-10-24*

> Bill Young leads a prayer for those affected by Hurricane Patricia in Mexico and reflects on the feast of St. Anthony Claret, invoking the Church’s upcoming Year of Mercy.

## Opening Prayer for Hurricane Patricia

Good morning. This is Bill Young, and welcome to Prayer and Lunch. I have an urgent prayer request for those in the path of Hurricane Patricia in Mexico. Let us pray for all our friends and families there—for the living, the wildlife, the animals, and everyone affected by the storm.

## Feast of St. Anthony Claret

Today is the feast day of St. Anthony Claret (1807‑1870), the Spanish archbishop known as the “spiritual father of Cuba.” He served in the Canary Islands, Cuba, and Spain, and was a missionary, writer, and social reformer. We ask God’s blessing on Spain, Cuba, and all places where religious freedom is needed.

## Prayer of Mercy

Eternal Father, have mercy on our souls. For the love of humankind you gave your only Son to die for us. Through his blood, his merits, and his heart, have mercy on the whole world and forgive the sins we have committed. Receive the humble reparation offered by your chosen souls. Unite it with the merits of your Divine Son, that we may obtain great efficacy. Eternal Father, have mercy on all souls; remember that the time of justice has not yet come, but mercy is still possible. Amen.

## The Year of Mercy

Pope Francis has announced that the coming December will begin the Church’s Year of Mercy. Let us pray that God grants this request, that we may experience a profound outpouring of divine mercy throughout the world. Amen.

*May we trust in God’s mercy for all those suffering, especially the victims of Hurricane Patricia.*
