## Walking in Praise with Pope Francis

Good morning, I’m Bill Young. Today is Friday, October 16, 2015, and we continue our series “Walking in Praise” with Pope Francis’ teachings on caring for our common home. This is day 19, and the theme is “The World Belongs to All.” Pope Francis reminds us that leaving a sustainable planet for our children, their children, and future generations is not merely a nice idea—it is a mandate of justice. The Earth is a gift we must steward wisely.

## Personal Reflections on Bullying

I want to share a personal experience from my youth. I attended St. Teresa’s elementary school in the Bronx. Back then, before cyber‑bullying, I was repeatedly bullied in person. One day my sister Susie stood up for me, and the bully spat at her. Another student, Michael Mahoney, was often involved in the harassment. I recently learned that Michael has passed away. Michael, I forgive you, and I pray that the Lord grants you peace and the hope of heaven. I also forgive those who stood by and did nothing, and I pray for strength for all who have suffered similar wounds.

## Ponder: Our Responsibility to the Earth

Pope Francis asks us to ask ourselves: What steps can I take now to reduce my impact on the Earth and its resources? How can I give back to the creation that sustains us? These questions invite concrete action—whether it’s conserving water, reducing waste, supporting sustainable practices, or advocating for policies that protect the environment.

## Prayer for Creation and Healing

Let us pray together:

“God of creation, help me see the ways that I can repay the Earth for the bounty it has given me. Grant me the wisdom and courage to act responsibly, and give strength to those who have been hurt by bullying. May we all become stewards of your beautiful world, and may forgiveness and healing flow where there has been pain. Amen.”

*Our care for the Earth and our compassion toward one another are both essential parts of living out our Catholic faith.*
