## Feast of St. Teresa of Ávila

Good morning, I’m Bill Young. Today is Thursday, October 15, the feast day of St. Teresa of Ávila. She lived in the 16th century, a time of great political, social, and religious upheaval, and is often called the “St. Francis of her time” for her reforming spirit.

## Prayer for the Church

We ask St. Teresa to pray for Pope Francis and for all the bishops gathered in Rome these past weeks, as they address important issues concerning the family.

## Mother of Our Redeemer – The Prayer

Now we will pray the special prayer “Mother of Our Redeemer,” composed by Saint Pope John Paul II. In this prayer the Pope draws attention to Mary’s relationship with each Person of the Holy Trinity, inviting us to encounter the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit with a Marian heart.

Mother of our Redeemer, in this time dedicated to you, we proclaim with joy that you are blessed. God the Father chose you before the creation of the world to fulfill His providential plan of salvation. You believed in His love and obeyed His word. The Son of God wanted you to be his mother when He became man to save all people. You welcomed Him with prompt obedience and an undivided heart. The Holy Spirit loves you as His mysterious and mystical spouse and fills you with singular gifts. You meekly allowed yourself to be moved by His hidden and powerful action.

On the threshold of the third millennium of Christianity, we entrust to you, Mother of all peoples and nations, the Church that acknowledges you as Mother. With confidence we entrust humanity, with its fears and hopes, to your care. Grant that everyone may encounter Christ, the truth of life, and sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our journey of faith. Obtain for us the graces of eternal salvation, O Clement, all‑loving, sweet Mother of God and our Mother. Amen.

## Closing Blessing

May God bless you all.

*Through Mary’s example we are invited to encounter each Person of the Trinity with a heart of obedience and love.*
