# Who are we, anyway? Walking in praise with Pope Francis
*2015-10-08*

> Bill Young reflects on Day 13 of the 'Walking in Praise with Pope Francis' guide, exploring our identity as creatures of God and our responsibility toward stewardship.

## Our Common Identity

Today we are continuing with the booklet 'Walking in Praise with Pope Francis: 30 Days of Care for Our Common Home.' Day 13 is titled 'Who are we, anyway?' To know that we are all creatures of God will change our entire worldview. We are brothers and sisters everywhere, united as creatures of one God who made us and our world.

## The Challenge of a Throwaway Culture

Our culture tends to live as if everything is throwaway and as if resources are limitless. Often, those who say differently are viewed as uninformed or misguided. However, Pope Francis reminds us that we are charged with the great task of stewardship of the earth.

## The Call to Justice and Mercy

Once we understand who we are, we realize that it is impossible not to work for justice and mercy—for our planet, for our neighbors, and for ourselves.

*Understanding our shared identity as creatures of God compels us to practice stewardship and mercy toward our neighbors and the earth.*
