> Bill Young introduces the Chaplet of Divine Providence by St. John Calabria, shares a recommended talk by Rabbi Jonathan Kane, and walks listeners through the full prayer.

## Welcome and Context

Good morning, I’m Bill Young. Today is Wednesday, August 19, 2015, the feast day of St. John Hughes, known for his devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I’ll be sharing the Chaplet of Divine Providence, composed by St. John Calabria.

## A Recommended Talk

I’d like to recommend a YouTube talk by Rabbi Jonathan Kane. He affirms belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and warns that the United States is turning away from God, quoting the Old Testament. He also notes a historical fact: when George Washington was president, the capital was in New York City, and the first prayer of the nation was offered in a church that later survived the 9‑11 attacks. Feel free to email me at wryoung12@yahoo.com or tweet @prayerandlunch with your thoughts.

## How to Pray the Chaplet

The Chaplet is prayed on a standard rosary using the traditional beads. Begin with the Sign of the Cross and the Trinitarian formula: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” Then say:

“O God, come to my aid; Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

On each Our Father bead recite: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, graciously hear us. Most pure Heart of Mary, graciously hear us.”
On each Hail Mary bead recite: “Most Holy Providence of God, provide for us.”
After the last decade (the ten Hail Mary beads) pray:

“Look upon us, Mary, with your eyes of mercy; come to our aid, O Queen, with your love.”

## The Full Prayer

Continue with the following prayers:

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

“In honor of St. Joseph, Glory be… (repeat the Trinitarian doxology).”

“In honor of St. John Calabria, Glory be… (repeat the Trinitarian doxology).”

“For the holy souls in purgatory, eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; let perpetual light shine upon them; may they rest in peace. Amen.”

“May the souls of all the faithful departed, by the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

I like to mention a benefactor, Mr. Hugh Eugene Barry, whom I gave communion to until his death; may he be granted the light of heaven.

## Closing

We conclude by asking that all who have helped us be rewarded with eternal life for the glory of God’s holy name. Amen. I will now begin the Holy Rosary using the Chaplet’s beads.

*The Chaplet of Divine Providence invites us to trust fully in God’s loving providence while honoring the saints and the souls in purgatory.*
