# First Friday Novena and Prayers for the Environment
*2015-07-02*

> Bill Young leads the First Friday novena, offering the Apostles' Creed, heartfelt prayers, and a litany, while also asking listeners to pray for the environment on National Environment Day.

## Opening and Intent

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer & Lunch podcast. Today is the first Friday of the month, June 5, and we will pray the novena for the First Friday of each month. It is also the feast of St. Boniface, and today is National Environment Day, so we ask God to bless the earth and all the creatures entrusted to our care.

## The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell, and on the third day rose again. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Heart‑Centered Prayers

O Jesus, whose divine heart is a living symbol of infinite love, draw our souls close to You. May our lives be a continuous witness to Your love, offering You our hearts, our frailties, and our whole selves as a sacrifice of love. Sweet Heart of Jesus, may we love You ever more. May our hearts be sensitive to the tragedy of humanity and to the burden of sin, so that we may offer reparations united with Your redemptive sacrifice, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

O Jesus, whose divine heart burns with desire to bring all people to love the Father, ignite in us the flame of absolute love. May our lives become a witness to the Gospel, and may Your grace draw souls into the Kingdom of Your love, uniting humanity as one family in the eternal embrace of the Father.
