*2015-06-29*

> Bill Young leads a special prayer on the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, invoking the apostles as patrons and intercessors for a list of spiritual gifts and virtues.

## Opening and Invocation

Good morning. This is Bill Young, welcome to the Prayer and Lunch podcast. Today is Monday, June 29th, the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul. We begin with a prayer in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

## Petition to the Apostles

All holy apostles, Peter and Paul, I choose you this day and forever to be my special patrons and advocates. Through St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, because thou art the rock upon which Almighty God has built His Church; through St. Paul, because thou wast fore‑chosen by God as a vessel of election and a preacher of truth to the whole world, obtain for me the gifts of lively faith, hope, burning love, complete detachment from self, contempt for the world, patience amid adversities, humility, perseverance, attentiveness in prayer, purity of heart, right intercessions in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, conformity to the will of God, and perseverance in grace even unto death. By your intercession and glorious merits, may I overcome the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil, and be made worthy to appear before the chief shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, who reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever.

## Traditional Prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Closing Prayer

Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Let us pray: O God, whose right hand raised up and blessed Peter when he walked upon the water, and who delivered the apostles from the depths of the sea, hear us graciously. By the merits of both Peter and Paul, grant us everlasting glory, that we may live and reign with You without end. Amen.

*May the intercession of St. Peter and St. Paul strengthen us in the virtues we seek and draw us ever closer to Christ.*
