# Act of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
*2015-06-22*

> On the feast of St. Thomas More, Bill Young reflects on the saint's integrity and leads a prayer of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

## The Example of St. Thomas More

Today is Monday, June 22nd, the feast day of St. Thomas More. Thomas was known for his high integrity during the reign of King Henry VIII in England. However, that integrity got him into trouble with the King; he would not approve of Henry's divorce or his new religion, and as a result, Henry had him beheaded. St. Thomas More is known as the 'Man for All Seasons' and is the patron of all politicians. Today's politicians can look at his life and his integrity and try to emulate him.

## Consecration to the Sacred Heart

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so today we are praying the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, written by St. Margaret Mary. To begin this prayer, you state your own name and surname.

## The Prayer of Consecration

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I, Bill Young, give and consecrate myself and my life, actions, sorrows, and sufferings to the adorable Heart of our Lord Jesus, in order that I may use every part of my being only to honor, love, and glorify Him. This is my irrevocable will to belong totally to Him and to do everything for the love of Him, and to truly abstain from all that may displease Him.

I choose you, Sacred Heart, as the only object of my love, as the custodian of my life, as the token of my salvation, the remedy for my weakness and inconsistencies, the vanquisher of all faults of my life, and my sure refuge at the hour of my death. Be, O Heart of goodness, my justice before God your Father, and keep far from me His just indignation.

O loving Heart, I will put all my trust in you because I am afraid of my malice and my weakness; therefore, I put all my hope in your goodness. Consume in me, then, all that displeases or resists you. May your pure love be impressed deeply upon my heart, so that I may never forget or be separated from you. I ask you for your mercy, that my name may be written in you, because I realize all my happiness and glory by living and dying your servant. Loving Heart, I put all my confidence in you, because I fear everything in my weakness, but I hope for everything from your goodness.

*By consecrating ourselves to the Sacred Heart, we find a remedy for our weaknesses and a sure refuge in God's goodness.*
