> Bill Young leads a prayer session using the Chaplet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion recited daily by St. Padre Pio.

## An Introduction to the Chaplet

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer and Lunch podcast. Today we are praying the Chaplet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This chaplet was recited every day by St. Padre Pio for all those who asked him to remember them in his prayers. Likewise, all the faithful are invited to recite it daily. When we mention special needs today, we will be praying for all the souls in purgatory, especially those who have the most need of our help.

## Opening Prayers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. O God, come to my aid; O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## The Petitions of the Chaplet

O my Jesus, who said, 'Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you,' I have come to You knocking, searching, and asking for the grace of the souls in purgatory, especially those in most need of Your help. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be). Sacred Heart of Jesus, I hope and I trust in You.

O my Jesus, who said, 'Truly I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name He will grant it to you,' I have come to ask the Father in Your name for the grace of all the souls in purgatory, especially those who most need it right now. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be). Sacred Heart of Jesus, I hope and I trust in You.

O my Jesus, who said, 'Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away,' I have come to rely on the infallibility of Your holy words, asking for the graces for all the souls in purgatory, and especially those most in need of Your help. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be). Sacred Heart of Jesus, I hope and I trust in You.

## Closing Devotions

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, who cannot fail to have compassion upon the afflicted, have mercy on us, miserable sinners. Grant us the grace that we implore through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our tender mother. St. Joseph, adopted Father of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for us.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

*We are invited to join St. Padre Pio in daily devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, particularly for the relief of the souls in purgatory.*
