# The Twelfth Privilege: Mary’s Mediation and Intercessory Power
*2015-05-06*

> Bill Young reflects on the twelfth privilege of the Marian devotion—the mediation of Mary and the power of her intercession—drawing on Scripture and the Apostles’ Creed.

## Opening Prayer

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young and this is Prayer at Lunch. We continue our devotion to the twelve stars, today focusing on the twelfth privilege: the mediation of Mary and the power of her intercession. May the Most Holy Trinity be blessed and praised for the grace granted to the Virgin Mary. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Lord, come to my aid. Lord, make haste to help me. Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

## The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Scriptural Foundations

Proverbs 8:35 says, “For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.” Mary receives the graces of Jesus and pours them out on all creation (John 7:37‑38). Revelation 12:1 describes the woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars, reminding us of the twelve privileges of the Virgin Mary.

## Reflection on Mary’s Mediation

We see the Holy Virgin Mary interceding before the Most High for the salvation of all her sinful children. She receives graces from the primary source—Christ—and, as the true Mother of God, transmits those graces to us. Her generosity continually increases the riches of divine mercy.

The Holy Trinity has given Mary the mission of universal maternity. As John welcomed her with spontaneous love, we too consecrate ourselves to her immaculate heart.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Closing Prayer

May the Most Holy Trinity be blessed, praised, and thanked. Amen.

*Mary’s intercession draws the graces of Christ to us, inviting us into the abundant mercy of the Trinity.*
