# Eleventh Privilege – The Sovereignty of Mary
*2015-05-05*

> Bill Young reflects on the eleventh privilege of Mary, the Sovereignty of Mary, drawing on Luke 1:32‑33 and the Marian title “Queen of Heaven.”

## Opening Prayer and Creed

Good afternoon, this is Bill Young and welcome to the Prayer and Lunch podcast. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we begin with the Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father; He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

## The Eleventh Privilege: Sovereignty of Mary

The eleventh privilege is the Sovereignty of Mary. Luke 1:32‑33 tells us: “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there will be no end.” This promise of an eternal throne is extended to Mary as Queen of Heaven, the “woman clothed with the sun” in Revelation 12:1.

In heaven, Mary reigns in paradise, sharing in the glory of the Holy Trinity. The power given to her is for our benefit, a marvelous gift from God who gave us Mary as our mother.

## Invocation to Mary

We invoke Mary as queen: “You are queen and you are hand‑made for you and for Jesus. Nothing else matters but to serve. Educate me, therefore, O Mother, that I may bear witness to truth and justice with the attitude of your queenship.”

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Closing Blessing

May the most holy Trinity be blessed. Praise and thanks for the great gift of Mary’s sovereignty.

*Mary’s queenship draws us into the eternal reign of Christ, inviting us to share in His kingdom.*
