# Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
*2015-04-04*

> Bill reflects on John 20:5‑10, noting how the first disciples’ encounter with the empty tomb leads to belief, and urges listeners to let the risen Christ shape their journey of faith.

## The Gospel Reading

John 20:5‑10 tells us that the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, bent down, looked in, and saw the linen cloths lying there, yet he did not go in. Then Simon Peter arrived, went into the tomb, saw the linen wrappings and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, rolled up separately. The other disciples, who had reached the tomb first, also entered, saw, and believed, though they still did not understand the Scriptures that Jesus must rise from the dead.

## Two Disciples, Two Responses

In the Gospel, we see two disciples—one who looks and one who believes. Their willingness to trust in Jesus marks the pivotal moment of conversion. Even before seeing the risen Christ, they find help in Scripture, which gives them the capacity to believe.

## The Role of Scripture in Faith

Scripture does not merely recount events; it opens our hearts to the mystery of the Resurrection. For Peter, the written word gradually leads to a deeper understanding of what has happened, moving him from curiosity to conviction.

## A Prayer for Our Journey

On this solemn Easter, we pray that each of us may continue our journey of faith with joy. May our witness to the risen Lord bring God’s forgiveness, compassion, and eternal life to all with whom we live, work, and interact. Hallelujah.

*May our witness to the risen Lord bring God's forgiveness, compassion, and eternal life to all.*
