# A Prayer of Plea to God
*2015-03-09*

> Bill Young shares a heartfelt prayer called “Plea to God,” reflecting on the conflict between our good and dark sides and asking God to unite our hearts to Him.

## Introducing the Prayer

Welcome to the 64th episode of Prayer and Lunch. Today’s lunchtime prayer is a short piece I found called “Plea to God.” It speaks of the two sides we all have: the side that loves God and does good, and the darker side we try to hide. The prayer asks God to help us overcome the temptation of that darker side and to live fully in His love.

## The Prayer Itself

Oh God, our heart is deep in darkness. Though it is united to Your heart, our heart struggles between You and Satan. Let it not be so. Each time our heart is divided between good and evil, enlighten it with Your light and unite it to You. May there not be two lovers inside us; may two contradictory beliefs not coexist. Do not permit lies, sin, love and hate, honesty and dishonesty, humility and pride to exist together in us. Help us to have a heart lifted to You like that of a child, full of peace and continual desire for You. Let Your holy will and love dwell within us, that we may truly desire to be Your children.

Lord, when we fail to desire to be Your children, remember our former longing and help us welcome You again. We open our hearts to You so that Your holy love may dwell in them, and we open our souls to be touched by Your mercy, which reveals our sins clearly and shows us that sin makes us impure. God, we want to be humble, devoted children, as the Father would like us to be. Help us, Jesus, to obtain forgiveness from the Father and to be good to Him. Help us, Jesus, to fully comprehend what God gives us, for at times we reject His gifts and refuse good actions, mistakenly calling them wrong.

## Closing Doxology

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

*May God’s light unite our divided hearts so we can live as true children of Christ.*
