# Annunciation of the Lord

> Bill reflects on the biblical reading from Hebrews and the significance of the Annunciation, highlighting Mary’s and Joseph’s “yes” to God and what that means for our own discipleship.

## Scripture Reading

We begin with Hebrews 10:7‑10: “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ When he says, ‘You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings,’ he is speaking of the old covenant. Christ declares, ‘I have come to do your will.’ He abolishes the first order to establish the second, that we may be sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

## Mary’s Assent

The Annunciation is the pivotal moment that launches the Incarnation. In her humble “yes,” Mary, a simple woman from Nazareth, consents to God’s plan and becomes the Mother of our Savior. Her assent opens the door to salvation for all humanity.

## Joseph’s Humility

Joseph also responds with humility, accepting God’s will from the moment of the Angel’s visitation until the crucifixion. By surrendering his own desires, he protects and supports the mystery of the Incarnation.

## Our Call to Say Yes

If a simple woman in obscurity and a carpenter from Nazareth could change the course of history by saying “yes,” imagine what we can accomplish when we entrust ourselves to God’s will.

*Saying yes to God’s will opens the way to eternal life.*
