# Invocation of the Spirit of Love on St. Valentine’s Day
*2015-02-13*

> Bill Young offers a prayer invoking the Spirit of Love, asking for renewal, unity, and courage in the Church and the world on the feast of St. Valentine.

## Opening

Good morning. This is Bill Young with the Prayer and Lunch podcast. Today is the Feast of St. Valentine, and in honor of the day I’m offering a prayer invoking the Spirit of Love. May all of you feel loved today.

## Prayer for Renewal and Holiness

Come, O Spirit of Love, and renew the face of the earth. Grant that all things may become a new garden of grace, holiness, justice, and love, a communion of peace, so that the Most Holy Trinity may be loved and glorified.

## Prayer for Unity and Light

Come, O Spirit of Love, and bring the whole Church to perfection in love, unity, and holiness, that it may become a great light to illuminate all peoples in the darkness of the world.

## Prayer for Wisdom and Truth

Come, O Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, open our hearts that we may comprehend the whole truth. With the ardent strength of divine fire, root out every error and sweep away all heresies, that the light of truth—Jesus—may shine on everyone in its fullness.

## Prayer for Courage and Mercy

Come, O Spirit of Counsel and Courage, grant us the courage to be witnesses of the Gospel we have heard. Sustain those who are persecuted, give courage to those who suffer discrimination, strength to the imprisoned, and consolation to those who are crushed or tortured. Grant the palm of victory to the martyrs of our time.

## Prayer for Knowledge, Reverence, and Vocations

Come, O Spirit of Knowledge and Reverence, fill us with wonder and awe in God’s presence. With the sap of your divine love, renew the lives of all who have been baptized. Mark your seal of Confirmation on those who offer themselves to the service of God—our bishops, priests, and deacons—so they may cooperate in the plan you seek to fulfill in these times of renewal, awaiting a new Pentecost.

*May the Spirit of Love renew us, unite us, and empower us to be witnesses of Christ in the world.*
