# The Way of Faith: Isaiah 55 and the Power of God’s Word
*2015-01-24*

> Bill Young reflects on Isaiah 55:10‑11, exploring how God’s Word, like rain and snow, brings life and fulfillment, and invites listeners to hear and respond to that Word during Lent.

## Reading the Scripture

Isaiah 55:10‑11 (KJV):

“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but shall accomplish that which I please, and shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

## God’s Word as Life‑Giving Water

The image of rain and snow is unmistakably agrarian, yet it speaks to every person wherever we live. From the moment of creation, God’s Word brought the universe into being, called women and men to faith, gathered a nation as His own people, and sent a community of believers out into the world. Just as water nourishes the earth, God’s Word nourishes our souls.

## Our Response to the Word

The Scripture reminds us that God’s Word does not return empty. It accomplishes the purpose for which it is sent. Our task is to listen attentively and decide how we will respond. In these “scarred days” of Lent, we are called to discern how God is speaking to our hearts and to the Church.

We must ask ourselves: How can we be attuned to the Word that calls us to holiness? How can the Body of Christ bring life to the world by living out that Word?

## Living the Word During Lent

Lent is a season for deepening our relationship with the Word. It invites us to let the rain of Scripture soak into our lives, to let it shape our thoughts, actions, and prayers. When we allow God’s Word to take root, it produces fruit—faith, hope, love—that sustains us through the Triduum and into the joy of Easter.

*When we let God’s Word enter us like rain, it never returns empty but brings forth the life we are called to share with the world.*
