# What the Holy Spirit tells us
*2014-12-09*

> In this reflection for the second week of Advent, Bill Young discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in teaching us to see and love as Christ does.

## The Role of the Holy Spirit

Today is Wednesday of the second week of Advent, and we are reading from 'Our Advent Journey with Christ' in the words of Pope Francis. We reflect on John 14:26: 'The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.'

The Holy Spirit teaches us to see with the eyes of Christ, to live life as Christ lived, and to understand life as Christ understood it. This is why the Holy Spirit, who is the living water, quenches our thirst.

## Our Identity as Children of God

The Holy Spirit tells us that we are loved by God as children, that we can love God as His children, and that by His grace, we live as children of God. He reminds us simply that God loves you and God likes you.

## Guided by Love and Mercy

Let us allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit and let Him speak to our hearts. He tells us that God is love, that God is waiting for us, and that God is a Father who loves us as a true father loves. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal this to us.

As we listen to the Holy Spirit, may we move forward on the path of love, mercy, and forgiveness. We must hear Him telling us that God is good, that He loves us, and that He always forgives us.

*Holy Spirit, help me listen to your message of God's love.*
