# Advent 2009 – Being Christ for Others
*2009-12-14*

> In this third‑week Advent episode, Bill Young reflects on what it means to be Christ for others, sharing a short prayer and practical ideas for serving those in need during the Christmas season.

## Opening Prayer

Hail and blessed be the hour in which the Son of God was born of the pure Virgin Mary at midnight in Bethlehem. In that hour I bow my heart to God. Hear my prayer, grant my desires through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

## Being Christ for Others

Those who believe Jesus’ Good News can see their path even when they are blind. Those who hear His teachings can understand even if they are deaf. Those who follow Jesus can walk forward, even when they feel lost. And all who know Jesus are rich, even if they are poor. We believe that Jesus and His teachings are the answer to every need, the solution to every problem, the gift of true freedom. Jesus taught us to share with others and to care for one another. In doing so we become the hands and feet of Christ, the face of Christ to those around us.

## Living the Faith in Daily Life

This may sound lofty, but it is rooted in the reality of Christ’s presence in our everyday lives—keeping the house, going to work, managing money, and handling the details of our business. When we recognize Emmanuel, God with us, every task becomes easier and more meaningful.

## Practical Ways to Serve This Advent

Consider how you can help someone in need during the Christmas season. You might take items to a local food pantry, research a child‑sponsorship organization, or sponsor a child as a family. Choosing a child close in age to your own can enrich both your life and your child’s life.

## Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us to be your hands, feet, and face to all those we meet. As you entered our world on Christmas Day, may we bring your love and presence to every person we encounter. Amen.

*When we let Christ live through us, even ordinary tasks become acts of love and service.*
