# Wednesday of Holy Week – Seeking God, Finding God
*2009-04-07*

> Bill reflects on the disciples’ fear of betrayal at the Last Supper, connects it to our own hidden weaknesses, and offers a simple Lenten practice of surrendering those flaws to God.

## The Fear at the Last Supper

We hear Jesus say, “Truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me,” and the disciples immediately respond, “Surely not I, Lord?” This moment of terror and self‑examination is something every disciple—and every believer—faces when confronted with the possibility of personal failure.

## Our Own Weaknesses

We strive for faithfulness, honesty, loyalty, and integrity, yet we stumble in many small ways. The fear that we might betray Christ or disappoint those we love is a constant companion. Saint Catherine of Siena reminds us that we often mourn our weaknesses without ever truly overcoming them; instead, we can become trapped in a cycle of self‑condemnation.

## Renouncing Self‑Reliance

The solution is not to rely on our own strength but to place ourselves entirely in God’s hands. When we accept our frailty, we become open to the power of a caring God who can work through us in ways we cannot achieve on our own.

## Lenten Practice: Surrender Your Greatest Weakness

Take a moment today to identify the one weakness that most hinders you from being the disciple you long to be. Express sorrow for that flaw, admit that you feel incapable of overcoming it, and place it into God’s hands. Whenever temptation arises, ask the Lord for the strength to resist.

## Prayer of the Day

“Caring God, in my weakness is your strength. Amen.”

*Only by surrendering our weaknesses to God can we experience His true strength{}*
