# The cross in my pocket

> Bill Young reflects on the beginning of the Lenten season and shares a personal prayer regarding the significance of carrying a small cross.

## Entering the Lenten Season

Good morning. This is Bill Young. We are now in the Lenten season, and yesterday was Ash Wednesday, so I hope we all received our ashes.

## A Simple Reminder

I have a little prayer I like to say, particularly for this Lenten season of 2009, called 'The Cross in My Pocket.' I carry a cross in my pocket as a simple reminder to me of the fact that I am a Christian, no matter where I may be.

## Not a Charm, But a Call

This little cross is no magic, nor is it a good luck charm. It isn't meant to protect me from every physical harm. Instead, when I put my hand in my pocket to bring out a coin or a key, the cross is there to remind me of the price He paid for me.

## Gratitude and Service

It reminds me to be thankful for the blessings day by day and to strive to serve Him better in all that I do and say. It is also a daily reminder of the peace and comfort I share with all those who know my Master, giving thanks for His care.

## A Private Devotion

So I carry a cross in my pocket, reminding no one but me that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life—if only I let Him.

*Carrying a small cross serves as a personal, daily reminder of Christ's sacrifice and a call to live a life of gratitude and service.*
