# Prayer of Contemplation
*2008-12-15*

> Bill Young leads a contemplative prayer based on Matthew 11:28, inviting listeners to rest in Christ’s mercy and surrender their anxieties.

## Opening the Prayer

Good morning. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the 257th episode of Prayer and Lunch. I’m sharing a special prayer I found in my Prayer Book called “Prayer of Contemplation.” It begins with the words of our Lord: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”

## Entering Into Silent Contemplation

Lord Jesus, I hear the echo of your invitation deep within my heart. May this silent moment be prolonged, allowing me to contemplate your mercy, which gives me solace and strength. You are present with me now, and I ask you to free me from my worries, anxieties, and the daily trials that press upon me, as if the meaning of life depended on them.

## Recognizing the Kingdom Within

Lord Jesus, your presence brings the good news of the Kingdom of God. You assure us that God is sovereign over all things and over every person—great, almighty, good, merciful, just, and compassionate. Your love for us is steadfast and powerful, guiding the circumstances of humanity’s journey.

## The Cross and Our Communion

When you were crucified, the wonderful plan of salvation was accomplished. Through your death and resurrection, full reconciliation came between heaven and earth. Now, O Bread of Life, you offer yourself to us on the cross. By embracing your sacrifice, you draw me into communion with you, granting me solace, strength, and joy.

## Closing Petition

Lord Jesus, entrust my life, my thoughts, and my daily actions to your care. Remain with me always.

*In Christ’s invitation to rest, we find the peace to surrender our burdens and live in his merciful presence.*
