# Mother of our redeemer
*2008-09-29*

> Bill Young leads a prayer written by Pope John Paul II that explores the relationship between the Virgin Mary and each person of the Holy Trinity.

## Introduction to the prayer

Welcome to the 185th episode of Prayer and Lunch. Today we are going to pray the prayer 'Mother of Our Redeemer,' written by Pope John Paul II. In this prayer, the Pope draws attention to the relationship of Mary with each person of the Holy Trinity. Following the example of Mary, we too encounter the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and learn how to pray to them with the heart.

## Mary and the Holy Trinity

Mother of our Redeemer, this time is dedicated to you. We proclaim with joy that you are blessed. God the Father chose you before the creation of the world to realize His providential design of salvation. You believed in His love and obeyed His word.

The Son of God wanted you to be His mother when He became man to save all people. You welcomed Him with prompt obedience and an undivided heart. The Holy Spirit loved you as His mystical spouse and filled you with singular gifts. You meekly allowed yourself to be molded by His hidden and powerful actions.

## Entrusting the world to Mary

At the dawn of this third millennium of Christianity, we entrust to you the Church, which acknowledges and evokes you as Mother. To you, Mother of all people and nations, we entrust all humanity with its fears and hopes with confidence. Grant that everyone may encounter Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

## A plea for salvation

Sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our journey of faith. Obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation, O loving, O sweet Mother of God.

*By following the example of Mary's relationship with the Trinity, we can learn to pray to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with our whole hearts.*
