# A Prayer for Spiritual Maturity
*2008-09-27*

> Bill Young shares a prayer asking God to help us and our loved ones grow from infant faith to mature disciples, moving from the milk of the Word to its solid nourishment.

## Why We Need to Grow

Life’s struggles often make us realize how much we need the Lord. Sometimes we must not only walk closer to Jesus but even run. Without Him, the journey can feel lonely, and we risk remaining content with the “milk” of the Word instead of seeking its solid food.

## The Prayer for Maturity

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, I pray for myself and for those in my circle of family and friends—[names to be mentioned]—that we may become increasingly mature in Christ. Some have been content to remain infants in faith, settling for the milk of the Word and not ready to move on to solid food. Forgive them, change them, and help them be willing to grow.

Grant us a deeper understanding and application of Your Word. Let us see the wonders of Your work and be eager to live by Your rules, not our own. Direct our steps according to Scripture, and let no sin rule over us. Give us a generous desire to move beyond elementary truths, becoming strong in our understanding as we should.

Help us count the cost of time and energy, and be willing to pay the price. May we choose to grow spiritually, trusting that in Christ we will lack nothing. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

*May we all pursue the solid food of Scripture, leaving infant faith behind.*
