# A Prayer for Generous Hearts
*2008-09-25*

> Bill Young leads a prayer asking God to fill us with generosity toward friends, family, and even those we find difficult, trusting that God will pour out blessings as we give.

## Opening Thoughts

Welcome to the 153rd episode of Prayer and Lunch. I found a beautiful prayer on the internet—specifically on prayersforbelief.net—asking God to give us generous hearts. Generosity isn’t just about giving to people we like; it also means extending kindness to those we dislike or who dislike us.

## The Prayer for Generosity

Father, I pray that you would make the people in my circle—family, friends, and all who are dear to me—generous people. May their generosity begin with you as they offer you their prayers and gifts, trusting your promise that when they give, you will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out blessings beyond their capacity. Help them grow in the grace of giving, offering to others as much as they can, even beyond their ability, because they trust in you. May they give themselves to you according to your will.

May they always be ready to hear the cry of the poor and willing to share. May they sow generosity and reap a harvest that is "pressed down, shaken together, and running over." Help them be cheerful givers in Christian service, and may your riches in Christ Jesus supply every need. Grant them the ability to give beyond their means.

*True generosity flows from trusting God, who multiplies our gifts and meets every need.*
