# Prayer in Times of Temptation
*2008-08-17*

> Bill Young introduces a prayer against temptation written by St. Albert the Great, reflecting on Christ’s warning to his disciples in Luke 22:40‑46.

## Introduction

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Welcome to the 139th episode of Catholic Podcast Ministries, Prayer and Lunch. Today is Monday, August 18th. I greet my friends in Fort Myers and Naples and pray that the path of faith be easy on you.

## The Source of the Prayer

Before we pray, I want to share a brief caption written by St. Albert the Great. He reminds us that Christ continues to warn his disciples against the seduction of the evil one, as He did on the night of His earthly life: “Pray not to be put to the test” (Luke 22:40‑46).

## The Prayer Against Temptation

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, who led me into the desert of penance, keep me from succumbing to the tempter. May pride never compromise my dignity as a child of God, nor keep me from the true rigors of penance. With Your Word of truth, transform the trials that the tempter calls “stones” into “bread,” so that they become nourishment.

May the tempter not set me upon a lofty pedestal that makes me think I am superior to others, nor cast me down with false humility, testing the Lord with imprudent acts of penance that exhaust my strength and expose me to danger. Keep me from the mountain of ambition, where greed would lead me to bow the knee of my heart, will, and mind to the devil.

Drive far away from me all things that oppose You, that I may adore and serve You alone, my Lord. May the tempter be restrained so that Your angels may surround me, guarding me from evil and sustaining me in doing good. Amen.

## Closing Blessing

May God bless you all, and may you have a safe day.

*We ask Christ to transform every temptation into spiritual nourishment, keeping us focused solely on Him.*
