# A Plea to God
*2008-08-13*

> Bill Young leads a heartfelt prayer called “Plea to God,” asking for unity of heart, freedom from sin, and a deeper desire to be children of God.

## Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of His Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord God, our hearts are often shrouded in darkness. Though we belong to you, we feel torn between you and the enemy. Do not let this division continue. Whenever our hearts are split between good and evil, illuminate them with your light and unite them to you.

## A Request for Inner Purity

May there not be two lovers inside us; may contradictory beliefs not coexist. Do not permit lies and deceit, love and hate, honesty and dishonesty, humility and pride to live together in our souls. Help us to have a heart lifted up to you like that of a child, full of peace and a continual desire for you.

## Desiring God’s Will

Let your holy will and love dwell within us, so that at least sometimes we may truly desire to be your children. When we stray, remind us of our former longing for you and help us welcome you again into our lives. Open our hearts that your holy love may reside there, and open our souls to be touched by your mercy, which reveals our sins and shows us that sin makes us impure.

## Petition for Forgiveness and Understanding

God, we want to be humble, devoted children, as the Father wishes. Help us, Jesus, to obtain forgiveness from the Father and to be faithful to Him. Grant us the grace to comprehend fully what God gives us, for at times we reject good actions, mistakenly thinking they are wrong.

## Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

*May our hearts be fully united to God, free from contradictory loyalties, and ever longing to be His children.*
