# Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory – Day 6

> Bill Young leads the sixth day of the novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, offering the traditional prayer, the Our Father, Hail Mary, and a series of petitions invoking the Passion of Christ for the souls’ relief.

## Opening Invocation

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

My Divine Redeemer, thou didst die for me on the Cross and hast so often united Thyself with me in Holy Communion, and I have repaid Thee only with ingratitude. Now, however, I love Thee above all things, O Supreme God; and I am more grieved at my offences against Thee than at any other evil. I would rather die than offend Thee again. Grant me the grace of holy perseverance, have compassion on me, and on the holy souls suffering in Purgatory.

## The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

## The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Prayer for the Holy Souls

O Lord, most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on these blessed souls.

O Lord, through the scourging and the cruel crowning with thorns, have mercy on them.

O Lord, through the carrying of the Cross, have mercy on them.

O Lord, through the crucifixion, have mercy on them.

O Lord, through the immense pain of breathing forth Thy blessed soul, have mercy on them.

Amen.

## Personal Intentions

We now pause to mention our personal intentions. Blessed souls, I have prayed for you. I entreat you, dear souls, who are secure in God’s love, to pray for me, a miserable sinner, who is in danger of losing God forever. Amen.
