# Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory – Day 4

> Bill Young leads the fourth day of the novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, offering the official prayer, the Our Father, Hail Mary, and a series of petitions to Christ’s Passion.

## Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O my God, because Thou art infinite goodness, I am sorry with my whole heart for having offended Thee. I promise to die rather than ever offend Thee again. Give me holy perseverance; have pity on me, and have pity on those holy souls who burn in the cleansing fire and love Thee with all their heart.

## The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

## The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Novena Prayer for the Holy Souls

And now we pray the novena prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The response is: “Have mercy on them, O Lord.”

O most sweet Jesus, through the bloody sweat which Thou didst suffer in the garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on the blessed souls. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains which Thou didst suffer during the most cruel scourging, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains Thou didst suffer at the most painful crowning with thorns, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the pains Thou didst suffer in carrying the cross to Calvary, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, for which Thou didst suffer the most cruel crucifixion, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the most bitter agony on the cross, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

O most sweet Jesus, through the immense pain Thou didst suffer in breathing forth Thy blessed soul, have mercy on them. Have mercy on them, O Lord.

## Personal Petition

Now I may mention my personal intentions, entrusting myself to the souls in Purgatory. I have prayed for them. I entreat Thee, O Holy Souls, who are dear to God and secure in His love, to pray for me, a miserable sinner, who is in danger of losing God forever. Amen.
