> Bill Young shares the Litany of Humility and the ninth day of the novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, concluding with a prayer for the feast day.

## Introduction

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today is the ninth and final day of our novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and tomorrow we celebrate her feast day. Before we begin the novena prayer, I want to share a beautiful prayer called the Litany of Humility.

## Litany of Humility

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Jesus, humble of heart, hear me. From the desire of being esteemed, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being loved, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being excelled, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being honored, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being raised, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being preferred to others, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being consulted, deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being approved, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being humiliated, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being despised, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of suffering rebukes, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being forgotten, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being ridiculed, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being wronged, deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being suspected, deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That in the opinion of the world others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be raised and I be unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in every way, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others might become holier than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it, that I may become as holy as I should.

An awareness and love of my nothingness, grant me, O Jesus. The perpetual memory of my sinfulness, grant me, O Jesus. The conviction of my weakness, grant me, O Jesus. The abandonment of every vanity, grant me, O Jesus. The pure intention of serving God, grant me, O Jesus. A perfect submission to the will of God, grant me, O Jesus. The true spirit of repentance, grant me, O Jesus. Obedience to my superiors, grant me, O Jesus. A holy hatred of all evil and jealousy, grant me, O Jesus. The readiness to forgive offenses I receive, grant me, O Jesus. Prudence to say nothing about the affairs of others, grant me, O Jesus. Peace and love toward everyone, grant me, O Jesus. A holy longing for scorn and humiliation, that I may bear them in love, grant me, O Jesus.

O Mary, my Queen, Mother, Teacher of humility, pray for me. All you righteous souls, especially those renowned for humility, pray for me.

## Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Day 9

O Holy Mother of Mount Carmel, when a saint asked you to obtain privileges for the family of Carmel, you assured us of your motherly love and help to those faithful to you and to your Son. Behold us, your children. We glory in wearing your holy habit, which makes us members of the Carmelite family, through which we receive protection in life, at death, and even after death.

Look down with your love, O gate of heaven, upon all who are in agony. Graciously, O Virgin, flower of Carmel, look down upon all who need your help. Look down mercifully, O Mother of our Savior, upon all who do not yet know that they are counted among your children.

## Closing Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.

*May the humility of Christ and the loving protection of Our Lady of Mount Carmel guide us toward true holiness.*
